Because music therapy is a powerful intervention, there is recognition that it can trigger trauma responses in clients. This course is designed to provide trauma-specific training for music therapists so they can manage and treat underlying trauma within their client’s experiences. Beyond theory, this course provides skills-based training including verbal counseling and music therapy techniques to empower music therapists within their practice. Participants will earn 20 CMTEs.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify grounding and current theories of trauma-informed practice and implications for music therapy practice
  • Recognize key elements in the assessing client trauma
  • Demonstrate verbal counseling and music therapy skills in treating trauma
  • Expand musical repertoire in treating trauma
  • Integrate self-care as a key competency in treating trauma
