Taryn Thomas, MA, MT-BC is a native of Mamaroneck, NY, who began playing gospel music on piano and organ by ear when she was a child. Taryn continued to expose herself to a variety of music and learned the importance of music in the community as she played in hospitals, correctional facilities, and children’s homes throughout Westchester County. She attended National University in San Diego CA completing her BA in interdisciplinary studies. Taryn went on to work in early childhood education for over 20 years as a teacher and administrator. She became interested in the discipline of music therapy when she volunteered at a community music therapy program and discovered that this was the work that she wanted to do. Taryn became a faculty member of the Music Therapy Institute at the Music Conservatory of Westchester after completing her MA in music therapy from New York University. While completing her studies she worked as an intern at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan where she also works as a music therapist.
