“Exploring Ethical Dilemmas in the Face of a Pandemic”

This webinar taught by Dr. Russell Hilliard and Karen Shipley Leggett will afford music therapists an in-depth opportunity to explore unique and unprecedented ethical dilemmas that are arising as the result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar will focus entirely on understanding the core ethical principles guiding sound clinical practice, how these principles are coming in conflict with one another, and how to mitigate ethical dilemmas while providing quality care and maintaining therapist safety. Creative interventions will be explored to offer new ways of providing music therapy services while practicing physical distancing. Participants will earn 3 Ethics CMTEs.

Objectives for this webinar include:

1 – Identify core ethical principles guiding quality care

2 – Review current ethical dilemmas experienced during the pandemic and state concrete methods to resolve ethical dilemmas

3 – Recognize boundaries and personal needs impacting ethical practice

4 – Explore telehealth and creative interventions to keep the music going while distancing

Schedule:

12-12:30pm – 6 core ethical principles and clinical examples

12:30-1:30pm – Ethical dilemmas – case studies – and applied resolution process

1:30-2:30pm – Creative interventions for music therapy while social distancing
