Trauma-Informed Music Therapy Practice

Because music therapy is a powerful intervention, there is recognition that it can trigger trauma responses in clients. This course is designed to provide trauma-specific training for music therapists so they can manage and treat underlying trauma within their client’s experiences. Beyond theory, this course provides skills-based training including verbal counseling and music therapy techniques to empower music therapists within their practice.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify grounding and current theories of trauma-informed practice and implications for music therapy practice
• Recognize key elements in the assessing client trauma
• Demonstrate verbal counseling and music therapy skills in treating trauma
• Expand musical repertoire in treating trauma
• Integrate self-care as a key competency in treating trauma
